Which window treatments should you choose?
Living spaces
Not restricted by functionality – nor necessarily devoid of it either – the living room is where you can go nuts with personal style.
However, regardless of your interior themes, Eve believes there’s one solution that works in almost all spaces: plantation shutters.
“I think they’re a classic,” she says. “Although you might think they should be used more in ‘traditional’ homes, like those with heritage features, they can go anywhere. They’re great for privacy, they’re great for filtering light and they work really well in wet areas, like bathrooms, too.”

Living room windows could also benefit from an inter-seasonal change-up.
Come winter, our larger windows – like those in our living areas or bedrooms – benefit from insulating curtains to help keep the cold out.
Alternatively, in summer, you will want something light and airy to allow the breeze to flow through. Sheer curtains are best here, or just your shutters.
Bedroom
Bedroom blinds can be as much or as little about aesthetics as you like. However, most of us require some kind of blockout shutter or blind to help keep out light, not to mention prying eyes.
“For something stylish and on-trend, you could do something with a bit of texture, like a blockout roller blind with a sheer curtain over the top,” Eve says.
“Adding a sheer curtain adds a really nice softness to a space and makes it feel a little more luxurious.”

You could also use shutters or a double roller blind with a sheer curtain and a blockout shade.
Kitchen
So, you can’t have a long, flowing curtain in your kitchen. It’s a fire hazard – just don’t do it.
The best option for these spaces is more a more rigid shade, like a roller blind, or a shutter.
